The 38-mile McKenzie Pass Scenic BikewayВ begins in Sisters, summits McKenzie Pass and ends at Belknap Hotsprings, offering a full day of mountain and forest views. The route is also aВ designated Scenic Bikeway. Washington Wilderness and Three Sisters Wilderness also border the highway.

ODOT posts signs and closes gates when the road is closed. That date may be later, depending on weather and road conditions. The earliest opening is the third Monday in June.

McKenzie Highway closes annually from mid-November to mid-June. (Not applicable beginning Fall 1998.McKenzie Highway, OR 242, closed for the season on November 1. Left course during period allowed for official withdrawal. Fail does not award hours but does influence GPA. Credit hours are awarded but GPA is not influenced. Pass indicates satisfactory completion of requirements.
